Aircraft Maintenance : The Job

Aircraft Maintenance : The Job

Maintenance in public passenger transport revolves around two main areas:

Base/Hangar Maintenance

This mainly involves maintenance through inspections, checks, tests, tuning, repairs and alterations over a period ranging between a day and a month depending on the type of work. The work is carried out by teams of mechanics who have undergone initial aviation maintenance training.

Line Maintenance

When an aircraft is active a mechanic carries out checks at the beginning and end of each flight. This is line maintenance.

Most of the time these checks are very short: aircraft inspection (walk-round), checking levels and refilling, system testing. However, they can quickly become complicated if a significant problem occurred during the previous flight. The mechanic must locate the problem and repair the aircraft before it departs for its next flight.

Career Opportunities

We are approached each year, particularly during examination periods, by a range of companies (constructors, maintenance workshops, recruitment agencies) looking for new employees.

Our graduates are able to take advantage of these opportunities to enter a professional career and work in:

  • Aeroplane/Helicopter maintenance (military or civilian)
  • Technical documentation
  • Technical support
