Cabin Crew : The Job


Just like the profession of pilot, that of air hostess and steward is still the dream job for generations of young people and remains as coveted as ever.


Air hostesses and stewards are Cabin Crew. Out of all the staff of an airline, cabin crew are in contact with passengers for the longest. Their role is therefore very important as they represent the airline.

The Role of Cabin Crew

  • Passenger safety – routine and emergency safety procedures, demonstration and use of safety equipment.
  • Providing First Aid when required.
  • Providing commercial services to passengers: greeting passengers, on-board services, passenger comfort and welfare.


To enter the profession flight attendants must obtain the Certificat de Formation à la Sécurité (CFS) Safety Certificate, a DGAC approved national diploma dispensed at training centres like the ESMA.

 

General requirements of French airlines include:

  • Safety Certificate Certificat de Formation à la Sécurité (CFS)
  • Holder of the Baccalaureate (A-Level)
  • Medical examination
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent presentation
  • EU citizen

Career Opportunities

Cabin crew have the option to work within a scheduled, regional, charter or business airline and on short, medium or long-haul networks.

Those who wish to can develop their career to reach positions of greater responsibility such as Chief Flight Attendant, Main Flight Attendant, Instructor or Executive.
